Obituary for Aubrey Lee House

House, Aubrey Lee - Aged 88, born December 9, 1933 in Asheville, North Carolina, died October 20, 2022 in Naples, Florida after an extended illness. Preceded in death by his parents (Isaac Lee House and Nettie Mae Long House), brothers (Adrian Lewis House and Isaac Douglas House), infant son (James Stephen House) and grandson (Steven Taylor Hayes).

Survived by his wife of 64 years Anna Margaret Setser House, children David (Cindy) House, Kim (Steve) Hayes, Kerri (Alston) Hill, grandchildren Megan (Greg) Bradley, Kristin (Alan) Haney, Nathan (Emily) Wood-House, Lee Graham Hayes, Spencer Hayes, Kylie Hayes (Blake Williams), Clayton Jones (Katie Phillips), Cody (Alison) Jones, Cameron (Bobby) Bell, Skyler Stewart, Gary (Kinsey) Stewart, Candace (Ryan) Williams, 18 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Aubrey played basketball and football at Oakley High School. He attended Berea College for two years, then served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Upon returning home, he met Anna Setser in Highlands, North Carolina. The couple married and lived in Atlanta, Georgia while Anna finished Nursing School and Aubrey began a career with the F.W. Woolworth Company. Aubrey was promoted to Store Manager and the couple moved to Florida. After the loss of their second child, Aubrey felt God’s call into full time Christian service. The young family moved first to Georgetown, Kentucky where Aubrey completed a Bachelor’s degree at Georgetown College. They then moved to Ft. Worth, Texas where he earned a Masters in Religious Education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1970, Aubrey came to Nashville, Tennessee to work at what was then known as the Baptist Sunday School Board (later Lifeway Christian Resources) where he retired after 29 years of service. A short time later, Aubrey and Anna moved to Bradenton, Florida where they lived until recently moving to Naples, Florida.

Aubrey loved college basketball, fresh and saltwater fishing and planting a huge garden every year, but he is most remembered for his love for Christ, studying his Bible, teaching Sunday School and Leadership Training classes, and telling people about salvation through faith in Jesus. He would faithfully pray for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews at the conclusion of their every visit. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation for Aubrey on Friday, October 28, from 9:00 am – 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church Naples, 3000 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples. His funeral service will follow immediately from 10:00 am- 11:30 am. Burial with full military honors will be offered at 2:30 pm at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 state Road 72, Sarasota.
