Obituary for Barbara Jean Vieth (Beucus)

Barbara Jean (Beucus) Vieth, age 91, passed away in Naples, Florida on April 7, 2023, with her family by her side. For the past 30 years, she has enjoyed retirement while living in both Bonita Springs FL and Oregon OH. She has been truly blessed to spend this time with her 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, extended family, and so many friends.

Barbara married her high-school sweetheart, Martin Vieth, on September 11, 1954. They enjoyed over 52 years of marriage with so many great times together with their friends and family. Barbara and Martin enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and traveling to many destinations including the Bahamas, Canadian Rockies, and Europe, with Ireland being one of her favorites. Martin has been waiting to be reunited with Barbara since his passing on December 20, 2006.

Barbara continued to be adventurous in her later years. One of her favorite claims to fame was that she rode horses for many summers while visiting Wolf Lake Ranch, including on her 91st birthday. Her visits to Wolf Lake Ranch became a family event as more of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have joined her each year. She also enjoyed the WLR hayrides and cherished watching her family participate in many games and activities.

Barbara loved to share that she was 91-1/2 and lived on her own right up until her passing. She remained an active and competitive bridge player and loved to share her success with her family to demonstrate her cognitive skills at this stage of life. Friends and family admired her life and way of living, and we can only hope that her friends and family are blessed with similar fortunes that Barbara experienced. A good day for Barbara was starting each day with her Biscotti and coffee, enjoying friends while playing Bridge or Hand-and-Foot, a Happy Hour (with her non-alcohol beer, on ice, and in a stemmed wine glass), going out for dinner, and then enjoying a Drumstick ice cream cone while on her iPad. Life was good!
Barbara was born on July 9, 1931, in Waupun WI and spent her formative years in Ripon WI through her graduation from Ripon High School in 1949. After her marriage to Martin H. Vieth at St. Patrick Catholic Church (Ripon WI) in 1954, their journey together took them from South Bend, IN to Fort Benning GA, Fostoria OH, Walbridge OH and Bonita Springs FL where they met and cherished so many life-long friendships.

Barbara is survived by her loving children David (friend Kathy Johnston) Vieth of Naples, FL, Susan (Dennis) Bihn of Oregon, OH, Jon (Sylvia) Vieth of Calgary, AB Canada, and Patrick (Rachael) Vieth of Bonita Springs, FL; her 14 grandchildren Julie (Aaron) Mittendorf, Karin (Robert) Moore, Jessica (Casey) Moyer, Joshua Vieth, Amy (Jeremy) Adams, Megan Pollauf, Eric (Ashley) Vieth, Mark (Angie) Bihn, Martin (Rochelle) Vieth, Andrew (Krissa) Vieth, Monica (Felipe) Munoz, Michael Vieth, Rebekah (Taylor) Priest, and Lucas Vieth; as well as her 27 great-grandchildren whom she is so very proud. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Martin H. Vieth, her parents Abraham III and Gertrude (Ahern) Beucus, brother Abraham John Beucus IV, sisters Jerry (Beucus) Callan and Mary (Beucus) Heilke. Barbara is survived by her brother-in-law William (Bill) Heilke and sister-in-law Jean Beucus.

Barbara’s love of family, enthusiasm for life, and quick wit were evident to the very end. The laughing and crying tended to run together during her last days. We are all so blessed to have her as our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother - she will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Barbara on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church (212 N. Stadium Road, Oregon, OH 43616). Visitors will be received beginning at 11:00am with the funeral mass at 12:00pm. The family will host a gathering immediately following mass at the St. Ignatius Parish Life Center.
