Obituary for Bradley Dean "Brad" Young

Bradley Dean “Brad” Young, age 40, a former resident of Wellston, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023, from injuries sustained from a tragic tree trimming accident in Naples, Florida. He was born October 19, 1982 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Ricky Dean Young and Constance Jeretta Oiler Young.

Brad graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 2002. He was a very talented athlete who earned 11 varsity letters in 4 different sports during his high school athletic career with the Wellston Golden Rockets: 4 in football, 4 in track & field, 2 in basketball and 1 in baseball. He also set several sports records and received numerous TVC titles throughout his high school years. To this day, Coach Larry Blackstone and Coach Jay Lucas were great mentors in Brad’s life. Brad went on to attend Ohio University on a football scholarship and earned 4 letters for the OU Bobcats. In 2015, Brad was inducted into the Wellston High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was presently employed as a tree trimmer by Tree Time, LLC in Naples, Florida, a job he really enjoyed. Brad was an animal lover who was passionate about his fur babies.

He is survived by his mother, Connie Young (Gerald Riley); sister and brother-in-law, Brandi and Josh Dunn; niece, Kaleigh Young (Brooklyn Hill); and Aaron Riley and Christy Compston, who were like family. He was preceded in death by his father, Rick Young; grandparents, Vet and Marcella Young, Patsy Coffman and Charles Oiler; and his favorite aunt and uncle, Kim Pickens and Buck Oiler.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 10th, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 11th, at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor James Dimel officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be given to the Brad Young Athletic Scholarship c/o Peoples Bank, 101 East “A” Street, Wellston, Ohio 45692.
