Obituary for Brian John Caldwell

Brian J.Caldwell. Born February 4, 1948 and passed into eternity on January 6, 2021

Brian had the distinction of being the eldest of six Caldwell children-our big brother. He graduated from Chaminade High School, Mineola, NY in 1965 and from Oneonta, NY State College in 1969. Brian was an incredibly gifted individual in many ways but he decided quickly in life that sharing those gifts with big corporate America was not for him. He was a unique trailblazer and very comfortable in his own skin and the choices he made for his life. Conforming to others expectations was of little interest to Brian.

Brian was an avid reader and could handle any NY Times crossword puzzle with little effort. He loved yard sales and finding the right piece of furniture to improve his distinct decorating style gave him much pleasure. Brian couldn’t kill a plant if he tried. Every plant he ever owned or took under his care blossomed from his green thumb. He was an extremely gifted artisan but life’s demands prevented him from wholly pursuing this hobby.

Brian loved animals but dogs were clearly his favorite. Beginning in college and throughout his life even to the day of his passing Brian always owned dogs and kept them very comfortable and well fed in his care! His love of dogs led Brian to follow his life passion in becoming the best dog groomer he could be. All dogs, all fur types, all personality types-Brian could handle any of them and routinely work his transformational magic upon them.

Before retiring to Florida in 2006 Brian spent most of his adult life living in NYC and Long Island, NY. While the heat of Florida in the summer was not always ideal for Brian he greatly enjoyed not having to shovel snow ever again and reminding those who did. He loved the ocean all of his life and would spend many, many hours there during his lifetime.

Brian’s sense of humor was second to none. He was very quick witted and rarely lacked in finding an appropriate summary statement or response to any of life’s situations. He was always very approachable and for that he made friends easily.

His family and friends will miss him terribly.

Brian was predeceased by his parents John and Nancy Caldwell of Port Washington NY. He is survived by siblings Douglas (Joseph Schneider), Keith, Christopher (Marie),John (Claire McCoy) and Anne (Andrew) Uveno along with nieces Kristina and Carly, nephews Kevin, Sean and Jackson. Services and burial are private.
