Obituary for Charles M Feeny

Charles Feeny passed away on May 16, 2023, at his home in Naples, FL surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 19, 1946, and was raised by his single mother, Jessie Cameron in Henniker, NH. Living with his aunt and his cousin, his childhood was filled with carefree days exploring open fields, woods, swimming, and fishing in Pleasant Pond. He began working at age 11 on a neighbor’s farm and continued to enjoy working for the remainder of his life.

He served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea. Upon his return, he attended Northeastern University’s co-op program on the GI Bill which enabled him to pay back every penny of his student loan. He married the love of his life, Janet, on April 18, 1969. They raised two children and shared an amazing life of love and adventure. After starting their life in Boston, they moved to Worthington, Ohio where they founded several successful companies. Chuck treated his employees like family, with respect and appreciation. The success of their businesses afforded them a great deal of global travel, visiting nearly 80 countries, especially enjoying time with his Hong Kong business families. He became an Ohio State Buckeye fan, a member of the OSU President’s Club and obtained his private pilot’s license through the OSU aviation program. When Chuck put his mind to something, he worked tirelessly to achieve it.

Many fond memories were made on summer visits to their cottage in Chatham, MA with sunsets, happy hours on the beach with friends and neighbors, baseball games with the grandkids and family gatherings that always brought joy and laughter.

Chuck belonged to several golf clubs throughout his life where he struck gold three times with three holes-in-one. He was a longtime member of the Country Club of Naples where he served as President and a member of Eastward Ho! in Chatham, MA. Golf brought him many lasting, special friendships. He was an entrepreneur and a self-made man providing mentorship to many and inspiring those around him including the students in the Entrepreneurship Program at Naples High School. Chuck and Jan established the Feeny Family Foundation to ensure their philanthropic giving will continue and be a lasting legacy for their children and grandchildren.

Chuck had a large extended family, both in the US and in Nova Scotia. He leaves behind his wife, his son Jeffrey (Kathleen), his daughter Jennifer (Joe), his beloved grandchildren Mallory and Maxwell Feeny, Saige and Mica Vance, his brothers-in-law James and Philip Gridley (Bonnie), his cousin Joseph “Skip” Grady (Joanne), his goddaughter Sarah Cameron-Barrette and many more loving family members.

There will be a family service in the Memorial Garden of Naples United Church of Christ. A celebration of his life will be held over the bridge at Ridgevale Beach, Chatham in July with a gathering in Naples planned for early 2024.

Chuck was a passionate donor to Dana Farber’s prostate cancer research. Memorial donations can be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute: P.O.
