Obituary for Charles F Murphy

Charles F. Murphy Jr., 83, of Naples, FL, passed away on May 13th. Charlie was born in Westfield, MA on February, 18, 1940 to Charles F. and Ruth T. Murphy and was a product of St. Mary’s Schools. He moved to Holyoke, MA in 1966 where he raised his family.

Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving honorably from 1959 to 1962. He was a long time self employed CPA. He contributed his time and talents serving in various capacities which included being appointed as a charter member of the Geriatric Authority and serving as Vice Chairman. He also served as Chairman of the Fire Commission and President of the Taxpayers Association, Treasurer of the Springfield Country Club and Finance Chairman of the Holy Cross Parish Council.

He was a huge sports fan and especially enjoyed the Red Sox, Patriots and UCONN women’s basketball. Golf, however, was his passion and he felt fortunate to have both a hole in one and a double eagle. He had the good fortune to play many fine courses. He especially enjoyed Lahinch in Ireland, Mid Ocean and Port Royal in Bermuda, Pebble Beach, Wildcat Run in Estero Fl., TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course and The Country Club where on a beautiful Massachusetts autumn afternoon, playing from the back tees, he birdied the first two holes. The next sixteen were enjoyable but not as memorable.

He is survived by his four children, Colonel Brian (Lt. Col Jill USAF Ret.) Murphy USAF Ret. of San Antonio, TX, Kelly Murphy of Naples, FL, Michael Murphy of Hatfield, MA and Kevin (Leslie) Murphy of San Francisco, CA. parents of his beloved twin grandchildren, Everett and Cooper. He leaves his sister, Alice (George) Van Tasel of Somers, CT; their three children, Kerri Brunt of Somers, CT, Timothy (Jennifer) Van Tasel of Ellington, CT and Thomas (Caitlin) Van Tasel of Glastonbury CT; his grand nieces and nephews, Jack Murphy Brunt, Emma and Luke Murphy Van Tasel, and Rilynn, Kellen and Irelynn Van Tasel; cousins, William Murphy and Carol Brzys of Westfield, MA; and his esteemed cousin, Jane Thomas, SSJ of West Springfield, MA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John.
