Obituary for Darlene Mae Thomas

On Friday, February 23, 2024, Darlene Mae Thomas, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully. For ninety-one years she lived her life with zest and passion.

She is predeceased by her parents Edwin and Blanche Porter and her two brothers E. Charles and Richard.
Born in Sarnia Canada in 1932, Darlene immigrated to the USA in the early 1950’s and became a US citizen on June 8, 1965.

Her pride and joy were her 5 children: Vicki Tracy (Steve), Greg Thomas, (Colleen), Kenneth Thomas, Kevin Thomas (Jennifer), Terri Thomas.

A proud grandmother she was affectionately known as Tutu and RAD. They are Gabe Tracy (Mari), Daniel Thomas, Bridget Thomas Bowman (“Rocky”, LT USN), Brendan Thomas (Cpl, USMC), Madison Giovenco, Jacob Giovenco.

A beloved aunt to Mary Beth Porter Clinton, Craig Porter, Tracy Porter Vonhamee, Kelly Porter and Bradley Porter and numerous other cousins and relatives.

She was passionate about everything she did. From her early roots in Sarnia Canada, to Texas, to Detroit where she raised her family, her journey finally brought her to Naples in the 1980’s. Her passion for the arts kept her active in the Naples theater circuit. She was especially fond of Gulf Shore Playhouse and the Naples Players.

Her love for musicals and anything Broadway was only second to her deep fondness for classical music.
Darlene’s dear friends were very important to her. She loved to have fun. Her testament to this was the gatherings she had with her Happy Hour Habit Group she founded known as the “HHH”. She also loved the American Legion. She was a proud lifetime member of the Above Board Chamber.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, March 1st, at 10:00am at St John the Evangelist Catholic church, 625 111th Ave N. 34110, Naples FL.

As Darlene would have wanted, a “Happy Hour” celebration of her life event will be at 12:00 in the church’s Nazareth room in the Pulte Family Life Center adjoining hall, at St John the Evangelist’s.
