Obituary for Dennis Lynn "Skip" Cottrill

Dennis Lynn “Skip” Cottrill peacefully passed away in the care of Avow Frances Georgeson Hospice, Naples, Florida on January 8, 2020. Surrounding him with love the last week of his life were his three children, two sisters, his good friend Trevor, and caring co-workers.

Skip was born in Sioux City, Iowa on August 17, 1943, but lived most of his adult life in the area around Minneapolis, MN. In 1956 he was preceded in death by his mother, Lucile Eielson Cottrill, and two young sisters, Susan and Linda. in 1986 he was preceded in death by his Father, Lester Wayne Cottrill, and by his Stepmother, Caroline Q Cottrill in 2000. Skip is survived by two sisters, Sandra Hesse of Breaux Bridge LA and Shelly Dunne of Ponte Vedra, FL;three children, Kellie Cottrill of Stillwater, MN, Brian Cottrill of Chippewa Falls, WI, and Chris (Kristin) Cottrill of Watertown, NY; five grandchildren, Lauren Cottrill, Blake Cottrill, McKenzie Beno, Samantha Cottrill and Elisebeth Cottrill, four great grandchildren, four nieces and nephews, one cousin and his friend, Trevor Wishman of Naples, FL.

Skip moved from Minnesota to Naples, Florida in 1992 to be near his sister, Sandra and, of course, for the warm weather. He went to work for Quail West Golf & Country Club, first as a Consultant, and then as a treasured employee for 22 years in charge of Special Projects. In 2019, Skip received the first ever “KHB Award of Excellence” from Quail West.The award was for excellence in the following categories: Integrity, Creativity and Innovation, Work Ethic, Commitment to Excellence, 5 Diamond Standards & Principles, and Community Service. Skip loved his job and his wonderful co-workers and friends.

The family would like to thank Heather and Jill at Quail West for always having his back during his 9-month battle with cancer and to Trevor for his tremendous help and friendship.

There will be no service.
