Donald George Haase, aged 81 of Estero, FL passed peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2022, in Fort Myers, FL while being surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his two sons Michael of New Berlin, WI, and Paul (Tanya) of Cottage Grove, WI and three grandchildren, Griffin (Serena), Hunter and Jade. Sisters Marie Tsuchiya and Janet (Rudy) Klemm and brothers-in-laws and his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Judy and son Stephen, parents George and Virginia Haase, sister Kathy and mother-in-law Vicki Kasper.
Don was born in Mt Clemens, MI on January 31, 1941. He attended Central Michigan University, where he met his wife Judy while working in the dish room in the dorm cafeteria. His career was involved in small engine manufacturing for over 30 years in the Milwaukee and Hudson, WI areas. He was also active in the United States Army.
Don was an extraordinary individual. He touched all those he encountered. Whether it was his infectious smile, his quick wit, love, and kindness. He loved his time with family, especially the annual deer camp in Wisconsin where he would have to rally the troops early in the morning for breakfast. He was a devoted lifelong Detroit Lions fan, having to endure more downs than ups while following the team all year long.
Upon retirement, he moved to Pelican Sound in Estero in 2001 where he and Judy were one of the original members. He was a legend in the community. His favorite activities included: fishing, poker night, playing bridge, working on Habitat for Humanity projects, spending time with friends and family, golfing, and the organizing of many, many social activities. He was often referred to by his close friends as the “Benevolent Dictator”. For those close to him, you always knew things were “under control”. There was always time for “one more” with his friends.
Peggy Schoenheider became Don’s partner upon Judy’s passing in 2017. Together they shared many great moments with their extended families and friends.
A small gathering will be hosted in the future for family and friends. Please make a toast to him wherever you are. In leu of flowers, his ask was please consider donating to your local Habitat for Humanity.
