Douglas Louis Bruin was born November 15, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His parents were Clarence W. and Beatrice (Haag) Bruin of Grand Rapids. Doug passed away on June 20, 2022, at his home in Bonita Springs, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Jerry Kamsickas. He was a graduate of Union High School, "Class of '73." He loved spending time with his friends playing cards. Doug retired from Challenge Manufacturing in January of 2020. He was enjoying his retired life in Florida where he could sing Karaoke every week at his community rec. hall. He loved meeting his neighbors and chatting with them during his long walks with Keebler, where he was often referred to as Keebler's dad. Doug developed a very close relationship with his step-children and grandchildren, attending football games, speed skating races, and other grandkids activities. Doug loved to travel and live life to the fullest.
Doug is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Rita Peters-Bruin, his children, Dennis and Stacy Bruin, Douglas and Chandra Bruin II , Patrick and Andrea Bruin, Kelly and Nick Culver, and Kevin Bruin; his step-children, Chad and Desiree Fires, Stephanie Fires, Bo and Melanie Peters, and Amber and Darrel Beasley; his adorable grandchildren, Laney, Adam, Amanda, and Pashence; along with seven step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; his twin sister, Dorothy (Steven) Weber, William (Patsy) Bruin, and David Bruin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug was a Navy Veteran, a Member of the Moose Lodge 2541 of Dorr, Michigan, and a Member of the Bonita Springs Fraternal Order of Eagles 4002.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Doug's life will be held July 17, 2022, at 12:30 PM with a luncheon to follow at Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2541, 4204 20th Street, Dorr, MI 49323.
