Obituary for Douglas Stewart Doty

Douglas Stewart Doty, 63, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021.

He is preceded in his death by his wife and best friend, Diane Marie Doty, mother, Ann Hassell Doty, father, H.M. “Jerry” Doty and stepmother, Marie Flowers Doty. He is survived by his three sons, William Doty of Fort Myers, FL, Geoffrey Doty of Fort Myers, FL, and Zachary Doty (Kellie) of Columbia, TN; sister Julia Doty of Laurel, MS; three grandchildren, Harper, Tate and Lewis, as well as many other beloved friends and relatives.

Doug was born in Dallas, TX and raised in Shreveport, LA where he graduated from Captain Shreve High School. He attended Louisiana State University where he was an equipment manager for the football team. After Leaving LSU, he enrolled in the El Centro College Culinary Arts Apprenticeship Program. This was the beginning of his lifelong career as a chef. Like all good chefs, Doug was passionate about what he did. He always put everything he had into every meal he prepared, and always took great pride in his work. He was well known for his barbeque and award-winning gumbo.

Doug was an avid LSU Tiger fan and passed this passion down to his sons, as well. He enjoyed collecting and reading cookbooks (though he never used any recipes from them), going to the movies and spending time with his family. He always made a positive impact on his community and was always willing to help people anyway he could. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Emeril Lagasse Foundation.
