Obituary for Dr. Thomas J. Swift

Dr. Thomas James Swift passed away on December 17th, 2020 at the age of 83, in his city of residence, Naples Florida. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Thomas was active, and sharp minded. He was a pillar of strength, and knowledge to all that knew him, and was always a kind and loving person.

Thomas was born in Chicopee Massachusetts, and was the son of Eleanor and James Swift, and the brother of James Swift.

After graduating with honors from Chicopee High School he was accepted to Tufts University and Tufts Dental School where he received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine. During his time in Medical School he met and married Barbara Rasicot in Boston Massachusetts. After marriage and dental school, he entered into the Army and was stationed at Fort Myers Army base in Arlington Virginia in the Dental Clinic.

Once his service came to an end, he and Barbara decided to move to Andover Massachusetts where he opened his first dental practice in Ballardvale. Over the years his practice grew and became successful, and he moved his office to a downtown office in Andover where he continued to practice for 30+ years.

During those years. He and Barbara built a home, and a family. He and Barbara had 2 kids, Todd Edward, and Tara Ann. His life was full of all of the things he loved most, work, vacationing, attending theatre, golfing, reading, and continuing his love of learning and education by becoming a professor of Dental Medicine at Tufts University, where he was able to give back to his Alma Mater and share his dental wisdom with eager dental students.

After many years of living his dream to the fullest. Thomas retired and sold his Dental Practice and moved to Naples FL to start his retirement. His retirement years consisted of his favorite things, golf, some more travel, theatre, and a healthy dose of time with family. He became a “Papa” to his 5 grandchildren, and spent his time taking the kids to many attractions that Naples had to offer. He was an active member of the Naples community, and also volunteered his time to the Naples Conservancy where he drove the boat in the mangroves and gave lessons on the importance of keeping our environment healthy.

Thomas lived his final years in Independent Living at Bentley Village in Naples FL. There he formed many close and personal relationships and was very happy. Thomas was loved by all that knew him, He had an infectious smile, and was known, and will always be remembered as the life of the party. Thomas is survived by his wife Barbara R.
