Obituary for George Henry Koutny

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Koutny on Sunday, February 5, 2023, four days after his 86th birthday. George was a loving father of three children and grandfather of seven who lived a full and rich life. George had a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s disease and is finally at peace. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

George was born on February 1, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Helen Wakup and Edward Koutny. He was raised in Chicago along with his siblings, Dorothy (Louis) Wappel, Lorraine (Frank) Wolfenberger, Edward (Laverne) Koutny and Richard (Patricia) Zednick. George was proud to have served his country as a Marine.

In 1960, George married Nance Shustar and together they raised two daughters, Jill and Janan, and one son, Jeff. George was a hardworking and dedicated man who started his own promotional point-of-purchase display company, Pace Promotions, which he ran with pride and joy.

George was an avid golfer, fisherman, cook, and biker. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and clocked over 100 miles a week riding his bike. In 2019, George moved to sunny Naples, Florida to enjoy his retirement and was known for his good will and sense of humor.

George is survived by his children Jill Winston, Janan (John) Cain, and Jeff (Kim) Koutny, seven grandchildren Ryan, Emily, Paige, Jessica, Danielle, Isabella and Taylor, and his brother Edward, along with several nieces and nephews.

George will be remembered for his love of life, his generosity, his sense of humor, and his love for his family. Rest in peace, George.
