Obituary for Janet Kies

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, Janet Wagner Kies, loving wife, mother of two children, and grandmother of six grandchildren, passed away at home in her sleep with her family by her side at the age of 82.

Janet was born on July 25, 1938, in Chicago, IL to Mathias and Marie Wagner. She received her degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University, where she was also a proud member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. On June 22, 1963, she married Conrad Kies, and they shared 57 beautiful years together. They raised two children, Jeff and Amy.

Janet always had a passion for traveling, but she especially loved cruising on Holland America with her husband Conrad. When she was not cruising, she could be found correctly answering nearly every question on Jeopardy. Nothing brought more joy to Janet than having her family around her, especially at Christmas time. Everyone who knew Janet undeniably felt the love of her genuine heart. No doubt, that is why all of her grandchildren called her “Sweetheart”. Janet will forever be remembered for her kind heart and generous ways.

Janet was preceded in death by her father, Mathias, and her mother, Marie. She is survived by her husband Conrad, their two children Jeff Kies and Amy (Mike) McCormish, her sister Sharon Kovac, her sister-in-law Zoe (Bob) Kitzman, and her six grandchildren Michael, Alex, Nikki, Elizabeth, Eleanor, and Emily.

A celebration of her life will be planned for a future date.
