Joan W. Hickey of Naples, Florida passed away on Valentine's Day, 2023 at the age of 62 after battling cancer for more than 23 years. She was a dedicated golfer and maintained a near-zero handicap during her adult life. She spent hours practicing to develop her skills. She was the Ladies Club Champion at the Classics Country Club in 2018 and 2019 and the Vineyards Country Club in 1989 and 1990. She co-founded and managed J&J Greenhouses for 26 years, a well-respected wholesale grower of flowering bedding plants. She was a talented builder and woodworker. She achieved her goals through focus and pursuit of excellence. She was loved by all for her dry sense of humor and winning smile.
Joan was born in Miami, Florida and graduated from Miami Palmetto Sr. High and Clemson University (B.S. Horticulture). Joan is survived by her partner Jane Heupel (Naples, FL), brother John H. (Jack) Hickey (Miami, FL), brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Lori Hickey (Hobe Sound, FL), aunt Jeanne Heyward (Juno Beach, FL), nieces Paige Hickey (Jupiter, FL), Caitlin Hickey (Brooklyn, NY), cousins Susan Mitchell (Floyd) and Marilu Novy (George) of Columbus Georgia.
Joan’s ashes will be scattered at Fred W. Symmes Chapel (Pretty Place) near Camp Greenville, South Carolina where Joan found happiness at camp in her early life.
A memorial gathering will be held at The Classics Country Club, Naples, Florida on Monday, March 27th at 1:00 PM. All are welcome to attend.
