Obituary for Julia Konicki

Julia (Julie) Ann Konicki, age 88, passed away peacefully at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL, on Sunday, February 12, 2023. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, to Frank Walker and Louise Gallagher Walker on October 11, 1934.

Julie graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and received her teaching degree from Central Michigan University. Julie continued her education by gaining advanced degrees from both Michigan State University and The University of Michigan. Her career as a teacher brought her the joy of traveling throughout Europe to educate American children abroad. She would go on to become a high school principal in Wyoming, Michigan. Julie married her beloved husband, Ted, in 1973 and spent many happy years in Fremont, Michigan.

Julie’s great loves were her family, golf, growing flowers, and playing Mahjong. She retired to Naples, Florida, where she was an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives.

She is survived by her daughter, Michele (Greg) Wardeberg; grandchildren, Nicole (Connor) Funk and Michael Wardeberg; sister-in-law Gladys Walker; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Louise Walker; husband of 45 years, Ted; brothers Thomas, Edward, and John; and sisters Bernice, Eloise, and Imogene. Burial and a celebration of her life will be held in the spring in Fremont, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Avow Hospice or Sacred Heart Academy in Mt.Pleasant, Michigan.
