Leonard, Lenny, as he was widely known to many, passed away peacefully the morning of August 26, 2020 at Hope Hospice (Joanne’s House). Cremation, with a celebration of life in Missouri is to be held when travel permits.
Leonard enlisted in the United States Navy following High School graduation in 1959. He served on the aircraft carrier, USS Coral Sea, with two tours to Japan (Atsugi) from his Miramar, CA base. He obtained Honorable Discharge in May of 1965.
He then began his career with TWA (American Airlines) at the overhaul base in Kansas City, Missouri. He retired with 35 years of continuous service in 2000. A&P certified, the Boeing 707 service bay was home for many of his service years. Much of his service was as Hydraulic Crew Chief.
Leonard and Karen were blessed to share 34 years together with their blended family. Most vacations found them exploring the Blue Highways of America on their Honda Gold Wing. The journey was always the ride, not the destination.
Leonard and Karen moved to Florida from Camden Point, Missouri in 2002, shortly after their retirements. They settled into their home in Estero, Florida where Leonard soon found his mechanical skills could be put to good use in maintaining his neighbors' golf carts. This part time job quickly became full time as more requests from friends for service of their carts grew. Recognizing a need, and filling it was who he was. Developing personal friendships with his clients was his ultimate goal. Leonard loved acquiring ‘new’ friends. He always had room to add to his huge circle of friends. They in turn recognized his kind, soft heart, and gravitated to him, too.
Leonard is survived by his wife Karen, son Terry (Terri Lynn), daughter Stacey (Jeff), one stepson Barry, two step daughters Julie (Kurt), and Leandra (Troy), and two step-grandchildren, Rylan and Lauren. Also surviving are two sisters Elberta (Bob), and Carolyn (Randy), and three nieces, Christy, Tracie, and Jody, along with a host of loving friends
The family would like all who counted Leonard a friend, to know his love for you was genuine and true. He felt it a great privilege to share himself with you and truly enjoyed every moment.
