Obituary for Marcia Ann Woodward

Marcia Anne Woodward, 71, left us too soon on February 17, 2024. She is survived by sister Alison E. Woodward and her husband Johan van der Auwera, of Brussels, Belgium, and sister Christina W. Strong, and her husband Benjamin of Belle Mead, New Jersey. She also leaves nephews Douglas van der Auwera Woodward, Pedro van der Auwera Woodward, and Kiliaen Strong, and nieces Hannah and Nina Strong. She taught her nephews and nieces about dogs, rock and roll, golf, fun and good food (especially spicy salsa), and was a wonderful Aunt.

Marcia was born in Buffalo, New York, and grew up largely in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where she was passionate about the social justice issues of the sixties. Upon graduation from Ohio University, she commenced a successful career in radio and network television advertising. She followed her work from Chicago, Illinois to Winston Salem North Carolina, to Dayton, Ohio. She started her own business, a time and weather service, and retired from actively managing that business in 2010, when she moved to Naples, Florida.

Those who knew her knew of her passion for animals. By the time she was fourteen, she had trained a champion Shetland sheepdog, and responsibly sheltered rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, mice, cats, tropical fish and birds in her childhood home. Marcia was never without a dog, and in her later years, her faithfulness was repaid by her loving service dogs, who were fixtures in the neighborhood.

She is survived by her ex-husband, PJ Bednarski, and was pre-deceased by her dear friend and partner, Larry Fox.
