Obituary for Margaret Mary "Peggy" Kane

Margaret Mary Kane (Peggy) passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2022 at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida. Until her death, she remained a proud South Philadelphian - especially proud to be from 2nd Street.
Born June 23rd, 1941, Peggy proved to be gifted academically, athletically and in her business endeavors.

Peggy graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in 1955 and St. Maria Goretti High School in 1959. In 1961 Peggy was hired by Delta Air Lines. She started her career as a Secretary Sales Agent in Philadelphia. She was promoted to Marketing ands Sales and became one of the first female Sales Representatives in what was previously a “man’s world”.

Peggy retired from Philadelphia Marketing as an Account Executive and subsequently became a Director of Corporate Sales for Travel One which was acquired by American Express Travel. Peggy was very successful in her career and achieved financial independence due to her strong work ethic and dedication.

Peggy was indeed a “Renaissance Woman”. She never had a music lesson. She taught herself to play the guitar, banjo, accordion, ukulele and harmonica. She also composed songs - both music and lyrics, relying on others to write down the notes for her.

According to her sister: “had she been born later, at a time when women were not only able, but encouraged to develop all their abilities, at a time when financial obstacles could be overcome by financial assistance,
my guess is she would have been an intercollegiate athlete on a full scholarship, perhaps gone on to an advanced degree, the WNBA, ah… the possibilities are limitless! “

Peggy had a great love for animals, especially dogs. She was never without one or two canine companions, many that she rescued. Her current pooch, Cokie, will certainly miss her dearly.

“Despite being born too soon, Peggy achieved, excelled and made us all proud”, said her sister Deirdre.

Peggy was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Catherine Kane, her sister, Kathleen Kane McGeary, her brothers, Thomas Kane Jr, and Kevin Kane. Peggy is survived by her sisters, Maureen Kane Kutys, Deirdre Kane and many nieces and nephews.

The Kane Family will be forever grateful to Barbara Nalbone, a true friend and caretaker to the end. Gratitude also to Crystal Mares & Heather O-del for their devotion and care during Peggy’s final days.

Funeral arrangements will be published once they are finalized.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to:
