Obituary for Sotirios Georgios Ninos

Sotirios Georgiou Ninos (“Pappa”), 98, of Naples, Florida, passed away on February 28, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family, including his daughter Angela Long and his sone-in-law John E. Long, Jr. (“Jack”).

Pappa was born in Lavrion, Greece to Georgios and Markesia Ninos on July 1, 1924. He served in the Greek Military as young man and went on to become an organic chemist for a Greek mining company in Lavrion. In his younger years, Pappa played competitive soccer, ran track and field for which he won multiple medals, and was in his hometown’s marching band. Throughout his life, Pappa loved to play the harmonica and sing with his beloved wife of 71 years, Maria (“Mamma”). More recently, Pappa enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles and doing word searches between watching the Greek news. Throughout his life, Pappa was a devoted member of his church.

Pappa is survived by his two daughters, two sons-in-law, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria, and his son, George. Pappa was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who valued every moment spent with his family and friends. The patriarch of his family, Pappa led with tremendous love, great humor, and, above all, unwavering faith in God.

Funeral service will be held at Saint Peter the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Church, 7470 Hickory Drive, Fort Myers, Florida 33967, on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Johannes L. Jacobse officiating. Burial will follow at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N., Naples, FL 34108. Visitation will be held at Saint Peter the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Church on March 6, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Legacy Options is handling the funeral arrangements.
