Obituary for Stephan Douglas Popiel

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Stephan Douglas Popiel, at the age of 70 on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at his home in Naples, Florida after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

Stephan was born on October 2, 1949 at Flower 5th Avenue Hospital in Manhattan, New York to the late Murray and Rose (Polter) Popiel. He graduated from Bethpage High School-Class of 1967, then attended SUNY Farmingdale State College and served in the Army National Guard. Stephan married Terri-Ann Schulte on Long Island, NY, May 8, 1982-2004 and together they raised three children in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Stephan later married Zanna in 2010 and moved to Naples Florida in 2016 where he continued to work until January 2020, when he finally decided to retire.

A dedicated man who loved his work, Stephan’s employment over 40 years spanned the following business organizations and titles he held. Stephan was a Sales Representative and business partner with the Druker Company, Princeton, NJ, representing United Technical Publications, Garden City, NY, the National Sales Manager of Distribution Services at Hearst Business Communications, Manhattan, NY, the Industry Manager at VerticalNet, Horsham, PA and finally, the Senior Account Executive at IEE Global Spec, Albany, NY. Stephan enjoyed golf, baseball (specifically the New York Yankees), bike riding, reading, boating, traveling adventures and of course spending time with family & friends. Always the life of the party with jokes and unique stories, he will be remembered with a smile on many faces.

Stephan is survived by his wife Zanna, former wife Terri-Ann Schulte, three precious children; Travis Louis Popiel, Emily Rose Popiel and Lillian Frances Popiel. His siblings; Jay Popiel & wife Sharon, Nadine Salogub & husband Robert, Morey Gendler & wife Louisa, Marcia Nass & husband Max, Debbie Popiel, as well as several treasured cousins, nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his parents Murray and Rose (Polter) Popiel and Stepmother Ann Popiel.

A “Celebration of Stephan’s Life” service will be held at a later future date.
