Obituary for Thomas Henry Nigolian

Thomas Henry (Tom) Nigolian, 83, of Estero, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 following a short battle with leukemia. Tom was born in Cleveland, Ohio, August 25, 1939.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Charles Nigolian and his dear Aunt Mimi and Uncle Jack Mikhitarian. He is survived by cousins, Lynn, Dana and Alison, stepsons Jeffry, Nicholas (Adele), and Nathaniel Kelleher, honorary stepdaughter Mary (Jimmy, Alice, Ellie, Ben Byun), and stepgrandchildren Harry, Lucy and George Kelleher and his former wife, Theresa.

Tom leaves behind his wife and friend forever of 26 years, Carol, and many friends from school and work. He took a personal active interest in Carol’s sons. Tom grew up in East Cleveland, attended Shaw High School and maintained those friendships throughout his life. He was proud of having been a student at Ohio University.

Tom worked for 32 years at Kmart Corporation, starting in the stock room and rising to Senior Vice President for Merchandising and New Business Development. He retired at age 53 having travelled to 20 countries and 40 states yearly. He often said that his early retirement was the “best thing I’ve ever done besides finding Carol.”

Tom was most proud of having completed 10 marathons including Boston and his favorite, New York.

Tom was curious, an avid reader, and willing to discuss politics with anyone.

Tom was interested in people and their backgrounds and would always ask “Where are you from?”

Tom was proud of his Armenian heritage.

Tom was an enthusiastic fan of any sports team from Cleveland and became a supporter of FGCU sports teams.

Tom was a loyal and true friend whose smile and offer of friendship will be missed by many. May he rest in peace. A celebration of his life will take place on a later date.
