William H. (Bill) Hicks, Jr., 83, of Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, with his family at his side. He was the loving husband for 58 years of Sharon Lee (Parkin), who passed away in early 2019.

Bill was born to William, Sr. and Charlotte (Gleason) on August 14, 1939. He lived in the house that he was born in on South St. in Elizabeth, NJ. He graduated from Thomas Edison HS in 1957. By the time he was finishing high school, he had built an entire new kitchen addition and a garage on the property.

After his marriage to Sharon in 1960, Bill worked as a store manager for the Goodyear Tire Co. He made a home with Sharon and their family in Cranford, NJ, where he was recognized by various organizations for his volunteering and civil service. He was the chairman of Cranford’s centennial celebration in 1971.

The family also lived for 40 years in Mt. Arlington on Lake Hopatcong where Bill had his own construction company. He enjoyed building, cooking, entertaining and volunteering. He is fondly remembered for his pleasant attitude and friendship.

Bill is survived by his sister, Ondrea, of Burlington VT, his three sons, David, Daniel and Douglas, six grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring people of Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Parkway, Bonita Springs, Florida (www.hopehcs.org). Memorial donations may be made to this institution in Bill’s memory.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Jefferson House, 139 Nolan’s Point Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ, on Monday, October 10, 2022, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
