Obituary for Yaniza B. Shourie


Yaniza Jazmin Briceno Shourie, 60, originally of Valencia, Venezuela passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on June 18, 2022 in Naples, Florida.

Yaniza was born in Caracas, Venezuela to Rafael Enrique Briceno and Reina Sivira de Briceno on August 29, 1961. She went to school in Valencia, Venezuela, Elgin, Minnesota, and Rockford Illinois with advanced courses in Maryland. She worked at General Motors in Venezuela. In Massachusetts, She taught Spanish to elementary students and seniors and worked as a Spanish translator for the Visiting Nurses Association. She was a passionate tennis player with a fierce backhand, an avid traveler, and a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Over the years, she was involved in several organizations centered on supporting those diagnosed with cancer including the “Walk for Life” in Santa Fe, which she started as a way to support her daughter, Sharishta. She also volunteered with organizations aimed at empowering women and children.

Yaniza is survived by her husband Satish Shourie, children Sharishta Pearson and Kumar Shourie, sisters Yanira Briceno Espig and Yamileh Briceno, granddaughter Liliana Pearson, son-in law Nick Pearson, and her niece and two nephews.

Funeral service and visitation will be held at Oasis Naples Church on June 23 at 11am with Pastor Michael McKellar of Oasis Naples Church. Legacy Options Funeral & Cremation Services will be handling the funeral arrangements.
